Halladay suffers first loss with Phils (AP)
Mark DeRosa gave the San Francisco Giants a two-out, two-strike hit that they’ve been missing — and he did it against Phillies ace Roy Halladay. Manager Bruce Bochy called it one of his team’s best at-bats all year. That got San Francisco started, all right. Eli Whiteside homered and doubled in a run, Jonathan Sanchez struck out six and the Giants beat Philadelphia 5-1 on Monday...
Cardinals place INF Lopez on 15-day DL (AP)
The St. Louis Cardinals placed infielder Felipe Lopez on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a right elbow strain. Lopez thinks pitching in a 20-inning game this month is at least partly to blame for the injury, which the team expects will heal with rest. Lopez said Monday he felt tightness in the elbow when sliding headfirst into second on a double during the first week of the season and...
Mets sweep Braves in rain-shortened win (AP)
Following a 2009 season filled with decimating injuries and painful losses, the New York Mets are beginning to get some breaks. The latest one came courtesy of the Atlanta Braves — and Mother Nature. Mauer has 5 hits in Twins' 12-inning win (AP)
Jon Rauch begged for a second chance and made the most of it for Minnesota. Joe Mauer matched a career high with five hits, Denard Span singled home the go-ahead run in the 12th inning and Rauch finally closed out the Twins’ 9-7 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday night. Rauch squandered a one-run lead in the 11th, then pleaded with manager Ron Gardenhire to send him back out...

Dodgers send Ramirez to LA for treatment (AP)
Dodgers manager Joe Torre says he sent Manny Ramirez home to Los Angeles to get treatment on his strained right calf, avoiding the “circus” when the team heads to New York to face the Mets. Torre says it didn’t make sense to keep the outfielder around for the rest of the Dodgers’ road trip, especially New York “where it would be a little bit of a circus.” He...
Morales' HR in 8th lifts Angels by Yanks (AP)
Kendry Morales’ big hit put the Angels ahead for good. Mark Teixeira’s shot sent catcher Bobby Wilson to the hospital. Morales hit a tiebreaking two-run homer off Joba Chamberlain in the eighth inning, and the Angels beat the defending World Series champions 6-4 on Friday night. But the victory was overshadowed by the collision at home plate that gave Wilson a concussion and injured...
Lincecum overpowers Cardinals, now 4-0 (AP)
Tim Lincecum knows he might not have made it through a start like this two years ago, when his best stuff wasn’t there. That’s how far the Giants ace has come trusting that he can get it done no matter the circumstances. Lincecum struck out eight to win his initial four starts for the first time in his career, San Francisco scored runs on a pair of errors and a wild pitch, and the...

Hughes takes no-no in 8th as Yankees win (AP)
When the ball pounded off of Phil Hughes’ left forearm, he thought it would go straight up in the air. It glanced off his chest and instead dropped several feet in front of the mound. He just plain lost track of it — and lost his no-hit bid, too. Catcher Jorge Posada and others yelled to no avail. http://bit.ly/amhlfl

Fister takes no-no into 7th, M's cruise (AP)
Doug Fister had a lot going for him. It was the first time he faced the Baltimore Orioles, they weren’t hitting that well this season and — oh yeah — the Mariners’ starter is 6-foot-8 with a repertoire of pitches that look hittable right up until the last instant. No surprise, then, that Fister took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, befuddling the Orioles while Seattle...

Orioles beat A's to end 9-game skid (AP)

Jimenez throws Rockies' first no-hitter (AP)
Once Ubaldo Jimenez found the strike zone, the Atlanta Braves had no chance — and the Colorado Rockies had their first no-hitter.
